Archer fish in mangrovesRaja Empat, Papua, Indonesia Fuji F2 12-24 mm @ 12, 1/90 @ f/5.6 Archerfish are famous for their ability to shoot a stream of water from their mouths, accurately striking insects resting on roots and branches as far as 2 meters away. Some of the small islands west of Misool that are criss-crossed with mangrove-lined channels. Powerful currents circulate fresh seawater hrough the channels, which are filled with corals and reef fish right up to the roots of the mangroves on each bank. Mangroves more frequently are found growing in muddly areas with long sloping shores, which are difficult to approach. This was aperfect place to try some more over/under shots. |
