Common Dolphin (Cape)

Delphinus capensis

Port St. Johns, Eastern Cape, South Africa

Nikon F100, Provia 400, Nikon 80 - 400 VR

Common dolphins - forming superpods of several thousand animals - force large masses of sardines up toward the surface, where they form dense bait balls.

Commons are among the fastest cetaceans. When hunting, they charge through the water at high speed. This is part of an attacking superpod which numbered more than 2000 animals.
