Wild dogs (2)

-

Hluhluwe Park, South Africa

Nikon F100, 24-85 mm, Provia 100F

Wild dogs are among the most endangered mammals in South Africa, and also one of the most difficult to see. I knew from speaking with the rangers in Hluhluwe that there was a wild dog pack in the park, but that the animals are rarely seen.

I was driving back to the Hilltop camp after a morning's drive looking for lions when I saw what I first thought was a pack of hyenas walking down the road in the other direction. As I pulled over, grabbing the camera with a wide-angle lens, I realized they were wild dogs. These are very beautiful animals.
