Terrapins

-

Hluhluwe Park, South Africa

Fuji S2 digital, Nikon 80-400 VR

This may be my favorite photograph from this trip.

I was driving down a long dirt road in a remote part of the park when I saw the terrapin and its offspring sitting on the rock at a watering hole. Then I saw the reflections!

I had to get out of the car - which is a "no no" in these parks- to take the shot. Personally, I really do think this was worth the slight risk of being mauled by lions or leopards.

There was only one opportunity here - the terrapins jumped back into the water as soon as they heard the first click of the shutter.
