BimaSumbawa, Indonesia Fuji S2 digital, Nikon 12-24 Taking photographs through a car window on the way from the airport to a hotel never works, but this one almost did. The out-of-focus foreground gives it away, of course. This is Bima Bay. Although technically it's one island, rugged Sumbawa is more like two islands connected by a narrow isthmus. Sumbawa Besar, or West Sumbawa, is more oriented towards Lombok and Bali in the west, and to Makassar to the north. The Bimans of East Sumbawa speak a different local language and are closer to Flores, the next major island to the East. |
